Michelin star for Ravensburg: Kaisersaal shines under Kevin Leitner!
In a remarkable recognition of his culinary achievements, Kevin Leitner, head chef at the “Kaisersaal” at the Hotel Kaiserhof in Ravensburg, was awarded a Michelin star on Tuesday evening in Frankfurt. This marks a major step for gourmet cuisine in the region. By renovating the Kaisersaal, which was completed in March 2024, Leitner has managed to revitalize the local catering industry and successfully compete for top ratings. He had previously won a star in a hotel in Bodmann-Ludwigshafen.
At 36, Leitner, who comes from Haslach (a district of Wangen im Allgäu), is an example of aspiring cooks who not only meet the highest standards, but also want to promote culinary education in the region. The success of the Kaisersaal is also remarkable in its award: within a year, the restaurant's kitchen has already received three toques in the Gault & Millau, eight pans in the Gusto restaurant guide and two forks in the Falstaff guide. This underlines the quality and innovation that Leitner incorporates into his dishes.
Culinary highlights in Ravensburg
The Kaiserhof, which belongs to Ulrike Müller-Welte and Hermann Müller, makes a decisive contribution to the region's gastronomic diversity. The couple also runs the “Schattbuch” in Amtzell, one of the few star restaurants nearby. Star cuisine in Ravensburg has developed dynamically in recent years, even if the “Markos” in the Syrlin dining world last had a star chef in Marco Akuzun, who lost his star in 2024. The Waldhorn in Ravensburg also had a star, and Leitner's achievements at the Kaiserhof are now among the award-winning kitchens.
A new record has been set with a total of 341 restaurants in Germany receiving at least one Michelin star this year. This number is the highest ever recorded and shows the trend of constantly growing star cuisine in Germany. In this culinary context, one considers the density of excellent restaurants, especially in Berlin, where chefs like Hendrik Otto in the “Lorenz Adlon Dining Room” have achieved two Michelin stars. Otto speaks of the high pressure that Michelin ratings place on chefs and emphasizes the importance of constantly looking for new taste experiences.
Kevin Leitner appreciates the importance of his work for the region and emphasizes the need for a new gourmet cuisine to attract people from all corners of the country and improve the gastronomic level. The Michelin star for the Kaisersaal not only represents a personal triumph, but also an opportunity for the entire gastronomic landscape in Upper Swabia.
