A fire in a terraced house in Wangen im Allgäu on Tuesday morning caused massive damage and several injuries. Loud Allgäu newspaper The fire broke out in an upstairs apartment around 9:30 a.m., presumably while cooking. The exact background to the cause of the fire is still unknown. An attentive neighbor heard the residents' screams and immediately alerted the fire department.
The neighbor, together with two construction workers, were able to rescue the residents from the building in time. The rapid alarm enabled the fire department to arrive at the scene quickly and extinguish the fire. After a search of the house, fortunately no other people were found. However, four people were injured: a resident, two children and one of the first responders. They were taken to a hospital for examination and treatment.
Damage and measures taken by the city administration
The fire caused significant damage, particularly to the roof structure of the building. The property damage is estimated at a low six-figure amount. The city administration has already accommodated the affected residents in other accommodation. At the same time, the police started investigating the exact cause of the fire.
Another incident occurred on Sunday afternoon. Loud Swabian newspaper The fire department was alerted at around 1:40 p.m. after a carport with an attached garden shed and another garden shed on the neighboring property caught fire. The fire department was deployed with departments from the city and Deuchelried.
The emergency services were faced with strong easterly winds, which made it even more difficult for the flames to spread. There was even a risk that the flames would spread to a neighboring single-family home. However, thanks to professional bolt positions, the fire was prevented from spreading into the neighboring buildings. The fire was extinguished around 2 p.m. and subsequent extinguishing and ventilation measures followed. Fortunately, no one was injured and local police are investigating the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage.
