Traffic accidents in Stuttgart

Unfortunately, Stuttgart is known for frequent traffic accidents that affect both private vehicles and public transport. As Tag24 reports, there is a lot of information about current accidents in the region as well as reports about traffic jams caused by construction sites or complete closures on the motorways. The A8 and A81 motorways as well as the B10, B14 and B27 federal highways are particularly affected.

In 2022, the police in Stuttgart registered a total of 21,466 traffic accidents, which represents an increase of around 7% compared to the previous year. The average accident per day is around 59, with around 5 people injured every day. However, these numbers are even lower compared to the pre-Corona years 2018 to 2020, when more than 24,000 accidents were recorded per year. The current statistics also show that 2,023 people were injured in traffic accidents, an increase of almost 8%, as Stuttgart Police Reports notes.

Common causes of accidents and road safety

The main causes of accidents are often failure to give way and errors when turning, turning and reversing. Alcohol-related accidents rose by over 20% to 255, while the number of drug-related accidents increased slightly. The increase in traffic accidents in Stuttgart highlights the need for intensive traffic controls that the police are planning to improve road safety.

It remains to be hoped that incidents like the accident on the B14 will encourage not only those affected, but also those responsible in politics and road safety, to take measures to avoid future accidents and make the roads safer.
