The gusts reached speeds of up to 85 km/h. The hail was particularly noticeable in the Ore Mountains, where grains of around two centimeters in size were reported. Storms and their effects

The German Weather Service (DWD) also warned of further severe weather risks that would last until Monday night. Heavy rain, hail and squalls were expected, particularly in the east and southeast. The reports from Tagesspiegel indicated that the hailstones could even reach sizes of up to three centimeters in some areas. This resulted in restrictions in elevator operation.

Police in the region recorded over 400 emergency calls in just three hours. Particular attention was paid to Altenbeken, where reports of a possible tornado were received, although this information still needs to be verified by the authorities.

A calming of the weather was announced for Monday, but in the east and southeast it will remain mostly cloudy with some showery rain, with maximum values expected to be between 20 and 26 degrees. The Chemnitz “Kosmos” festival was canceled early to ensure the safety of the participants.
