Art competition in Arkansas: Register now for small masterpieces!

The Arkansas Arts Council today launched the call for artwork submissions for the 2026 Small Works on Paper Exhibition. This major competition is open to all visual artists residing in Arkansas who are at least 18 years old. The deadline for digital submission of a maximum of three works of art is Friday, July 25, 2025

.

Submission details are as follows: Fees are $15 for one piece, $20 for two, and $25 for three works. All artwork must be created on paper and must not exceed the maximum size of 18×24 inches.

Conditions of participation and awards

Entrants must ensure that their works were completed within the last two years. However, this creative platform is not open to everyone: Current Arkansas Arts Council members and Arkansas Department of Heritage, Parks and Tourism employees and their immediate families are not eligible to participate

.

Selected artists will have the opportunity to become part of the Juried Artist Directory, which serves to support and promote creative talent. There is also a chance to win up to $2,000 in Purchase Awards for works selected by the juror.

Juror and exhibition tour

Submissions will be judged by Kelli Scott Kelley, distinguished professor of art at Louisiana State University. Kelley brings not only academic excellence, but also extensive experience, authoring the book Accalia and the Swamp Monster and having exhibited extensively, including at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art and at the Bradbury Art Museum.

The selected works will be featured in a traveling exhibition that will visit various art centers, universities and museums throughout Arkansas. The exhibit begins in January in Pine Bluff and will stop in cities such as Russellville, Fort Smith, Bentonville, Batesville, Little Rock, Stuttgart, Helena, West Memphis and Forrest City.

Artists will be notified of the status of their submissions in September. Artists must declare the value of their works, which are generally for sale, unless they mark them as not for sale (NFS). There are no commissions on sales.

For more information or questions, interested artists may contact Cheri Leffew at 501-324-9767 or email.
