On July 1, 2025, the German Press Agency (dpa) announced significant changes to the Supervisory Board. Julia Becker was newly elected by the Funke Mediengruppe, Renate Dempfle from the Main-Post and Marco Maier from the Radio / Tele FFH Media Group. Dr. Laurent Fischer, who previously worked on the committee, is eliminated at his own request. Daniel Schöningh, the chairman of the Supervisory Board, expressed his thanks for Fischer's services.

The composition of the supervisory board after the 76th shareholders' meeting shows a mixture of experience and fresh impulses. In addition to the new members, Valdo Lehari jr. (Reutlinger General-Anzeiger), Herbert Dachs (Medienholding Süd), Joachim Knuth (NDR), Frank Mahlberg (Axel Springer) and Holger Martens (Rheinpfalz) for another term. The Supervisory Board currently has 15 members, including prominent names such as Bettina Schausten and Dr. Nadja Scholz.

financial year 2024: Review and outlook

The dpa group accounts for a mixed financial year 2024. The group turnover fell to 161.5 million euros, which represents a decline compared to 165.9 million euros in 2023. The decline is largely attributed to the end of the corona -related project business. Fortunately, the turnover of Deutsche Presse-Agentur GmbH rose to 105.5 million euros, which corresponds to an increase of 1.2 million euros compared to the previous year. Despite the decline in sales, the result remains stable at 1.4 million euros.

The past few months were shaped by a wide range of challenges for the dpa. Peter Kropsch, CEO of the dpa, highlights sales growth in the core company and emphasizes the successful investments in artificial intelligence (AI) and the implementation of a new AI team. The subsidiaries, in particular News Aktuell and dpa picture alliance, have also achieved remarkable results. The dpa editor-in-chief Sven Gösmann also praises the journalistic quality and the challenges of an intensive news year.

innovations and further developments

In order to meet the requirements of an increasingly digital media landscape, the dpa has introduced a new multimedia production system called Rubix. This supports the agency's digital-first strategy. The development of a RAG model in cooperation with you.com for efficient research also underlines the urge to innovate of the dpa. In addition, the international reach was expanded by the new Arab -language service "Global Arabic News Service", which is carried out in partnership with the AP.

In 2024, the dpa also celebrated its 75th anniversary, which was celebrated with various events, including the news camp "Your news, your future". These anniversary celebrations were characterized by artificial intelligence, the use of which was also discussed in fact checks.

The German Press Agency, founded in 1949, is now one of the world's leading providers of editorial content and supplies media, companies and organizations in seven languages. With around 1000 journalists at around 140 locations worldwide, it remains independent of worldviews, commercial enterprises and governments. The dpa continues to endeavor to remain true to its high standards in news reporting and rejects financial benefits from government agencies and companies.
