VfB Stuttgart is crowned DFB Cup winner again after 18 years!
VfB Stuttgart won the DFB Cup on May 25, 2025 at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin after defeating Arminia Bielefeld 4-2 in the final. This marks the first title for the club since 2007 and the first DFB Cup victory in almost three decades. With this victory, VfB was also able to secure participation in the Europa League, which significantly improved the club's sporting and financial prospects. Sports director Fabian Wohlgemuth emphasized the importance of this victory and described it as a “big entry in VfB history”.
The game was extremely successful for VfB, who were 3-0 up after just 28 minutes. This brilliant start set a new record for the most goals in a short period of time in the German Cup final. Coach Sebastian Hoeneß celebrated the historic victory late into the night with his father Dieter. “It's simply indescribable, I can hardly believe it,” said Hoeneß enthusiastically, joking about a possible bet that could lead him to go bald.
Celebrations after the victory
After the final game, player Deniz Undav proudly presented the DFB Cup trophy at the VfB party marathon. Captain Atakan Karazor, who described the day as the best day of his life, was also euphoric about the team's performance. The return trip to Stuttgart took place on a special plane, and a car parade and a celebration with the fans on Schlossplatz were planned in the city.
The tension surrounding the cup victory is particularly remarkable considering that VfB has had to struggle with relegation worries in recent years. Winning the title was therefore seen by many as crucial to the club's development. Players like Woltemade praised the positive development under coach Hoeneß and the opportunity to attract new talent to the club.
The cup victory is the fourth in the club's history and follows the previous triumphs in 1954, 1958 and 1997. Despite the current league position, which is in ninth place and therefore not in the top third of the table, the DFB Cup victory is seen as a milestone for VfB Stuttgart and returns the focus to the club's glory days.
