Christian Grünefeld: The savior of the carnival in Münster!
The city of Münster's carnival is experiencing a significant new beginning. Christian Grünefeld was now appointed Prince of the City of Münster. The president of the Carneval Club Hiltrup (CCH) particularly stood out in the 2025/26 carnival season and is seen by many as the savior of the CCH. The club, which was founded in 1989, has faced major challenges in recent years. Without Grünefeld's willingness and commitment to take on the office of president, the club could no longer exist today. His appointment is seen as an important step towards stabilizing and securing the future of the CCH, which plays an important role in the city and is passionately supported by many members and supporters.
Grünefeld's commitment as President of the CCH for a year has made a significant contribution to driving forward the positive development of the association. The return to normality and the continuation of traditions are of central importance for the fans of the carnival in Münster.
A new chapter in Münster’s carnival
The election of Grünefeld follows the appointment of Mario Engbers as Prince Carnival of the City of Münster for the 2021/22 session. Engbers is a prominent member of the Münster carnival and also serves as vice president of the carnival society. What is particularly noteworthy is that he also represents the KG Evil Spirits, where he was appointed head spirit in 2017. His professional experience as a master chef and catering manager has anchored him in the local catering industry; he is the owner of Mario Engbers Gastronomie und Service GmbH in Coerde.
Engbers expressed excitement about his choice and emphasized his desire to bring happiness to people. He is supported by three other experienced Prince Guardsmen: Thorsten Geuting (Prince 2013), Ingo Veltmann (Prince 2017) and Pantaleone Squilace (Prince 2019). Prince Marshal General Paul Middendorf described the election as a positive sign in times of uncertainty exacerbated by the pandemic.
A sign of hope
At the moment when the city of Münster is starting a new carnival season, it is clear that the carnival clubs are determined to bring back some normality and joy despite the ongoing threat of the virus. The selection of Engbers and now Grünefeld symbolize this desire for a lively and happy carnival.
The combined efforts of Grünefeld and Engbers illustrate the city of Münster's hope that Carnival, a tradition that has united people for decades, can continue to thrive - regardless of the challenges the future may bring.
