Writing is happiness: New exhibition in Erfurt delights art lovers!

The Old Synagogue in Erfurt has opened a special exhibition from May 16, 2025, which runs until January 10, 2026. Under the title “Writing is Happiness” [MDR](https://www.mdr.de/kultur/ exhibitionen/thueringen-museum-kunst-börse-tipps-170.html), the series of events invites you to discover creative work and explore the connection between writing and happiness. The Old Synagogue, a notable venue at 8 Schwertgasse, is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., while it remains closed on Mondays.

In addition to the Old Synagogue, there are two other venues in Erfurt: the Kleine Synagogue, An der Stadtmünze 5, and the Waidespeicher Gallery, Michaelisstraße 10. These are also open Tuesday to Sunday, with the Waidespeicher Gallery opening its doors from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The entry prices are extremely moderate: adults pay 8 euros, reduced tickets cost 5 euros and the family ticket is available for 17 euros. School classes and daycare groups can take part free of charge with advance registration, and entry is free on the first Tuesday of every month.

Exhibition about Mirjam Pressler

Another highlight in Erfurt's cultural landscape is the interactive exhibition about the well-known children's and young adult author Mirjam Pressler, which starts on June 18, 2025. This exhibition allows visitors to immerse themselves in Pressler's literary worlds and become creative themselves. It includes seven hands-on stations where visitors can actively participate. More than 40 of her books are available at reading stations Erfurt.

Pressler, who was born on June 18, 1940 in Darmstadt and died on January 16, 2019, experienced the dark sides of life in her childhood, including poverty and loneliness. Her works often address challenges such as fear, violence and eating disorders, but also radiate courage and hope. Especially in her last novel, “Dark Gold,” which deals with the Erfurt treasure story, Pressler deals with Jewish themes and stories from the Nazi era.

20 years of KinderKunst e. v.

In Erfurt, KinderKunst e.V. is also celebrating 20 years. V. looked back. The association, which is dedicated to collecting and presenting artistic work by children and young people, has its origins two decades ago. The collection includes an impressive 14,000 works from around 100 years and forms the basis of an extensive archive. This committed initiative aims to promote artistic creation and to present the results regularly in the city and region [Kinderkunst e.V.](https://www.kinderkunst-ev.de/aktuelles/ exhibitionen/).

The association is not only a place for art, but also an important scientific and art educational network. In view of growing demands, the association is aiming for the city of Erfurt to take over sponsorship. The 20th anniversary of tragic events at the Gutenberg-Gymnasium could be an appropriate time to send positive signals about sponsorship.

The current exhibitions and projects in Erfurt offer a variety of opportunities to experience art and culture and provide creative inspiration. From literary encounters to artistic experiences, there is a lot to discover in the city.
