Memorial ceremony for the deceased police officer: Stuttgart mourns the death of Thomas Hohn

On June 24, 2025, a moving memorial service for the deceased motorcycle police officer Thomas Hohn took place in Stuttgart-Degerloch. The 61-year-old died a year ago during an operation during the European Football Championship. He was escorting Hungarian President Viktor Orbán when there was a tragic accident with a female driver. This obviously overlooked the closure of the route and collided with the police officer's motorcycle, which resulted in his fatal injuries. Numerous reports, including SWR, document the emotional atmosphere of the event, which began at 11:18 a.m. - at the time when the serious accident occurred.

Numerous colleagues, relatives and high-ranking police and political representatives took part in the memorial service, including State Interior Minister Thomas Strobl, Mayor Frank Nopper, State Police Chief Stefanie Hinz and Police Chief Markus Eisenbraun. The scene of the accident was closed to traffic. Numerous people laid roses and the Stuttgart police band played songs in memory of the officer who died in the accident.

Mourning and honors

As part of the events, a stele commemorating Thomas Hohn was unveiled at the scene of the accident. A week after the accident, a minute's silence was held for him in front of the New Palace in Stuttgart. These moments of silence testify to the deep respect that the 61-year-old enjoyed in the police force and beyond. The seriously injured 27-year-old colleague, who was involved in another collision in the accident, was also present. He was able to leave the hospital after a few days after being seriously injured in the accident.

In connection with the accident, the 69-year-old driver who overlooked the route closure was charged. In June, charges of negligent homicide and bodily harm were brought against them because the impact not only directly affected Hohn's motorcycle, but also rammed his colleague's machine, which was used to secure the intersection area. According to further reports from [Tag24](https://www.tag24.de/stuttgart/unfall-stuttgart/getoeteter-motorradpolizist-61-von-stuttgart-bekommen-ruehrende-gedenk Feier-3232429), a funeral service and a funeral march for the police officer are being planned for July 12th.

The tragic incident sheds light on the risks that exist in police operations and traffic safety. Thomas Hohn not only leaves a hole in the police ranks, but also in the hearts of his family and friends. He will be remembered as a dedicated public servant who gave his life to serve the society.
