Stuttgart is looking forward to the 178th Cannstatter Volksfest: It's going to be great!
The most important folk festival in Swabia is just around the corner: The Cannstatter Volksfest, also colloquially known as “the Wasen”, is taking place for the 178th time this year. From theSeptember 26th to October 12th, 2023Visitors can look forward to an unforgettable time on the banks of the Neckar in Stuttgart. Around4 million guestsare expected to enjoy the diverse range of rides, culinary delights and festive atmosphere. The prices for food and drinks, especially for the popular beer, range between14.40 and over 15 euros per measure, depending on the marquee.
The Cannstatter Volksfest has a long tradition: It was founded in 1818 at the request of King Wilhelm I of Württemberg to send a sign of hope after a year without summer. The first celebration was originally an agricultural festival and over the years it developed into the key event it is today. The fruit column, a symbolic object of the festivities, is a reminder of these roots.
Arrival and security
Getting to the folk festival is easy thanks to the Cannstatter Wasen tram stop. Visitors can arrive by bike, bus, train or car. Parking is available on site, with a day pass for the car8 euros, for coaches16 eurosand for motorcycles2 euroscosts. An environmental sticker is required for the city center.
The security concept for the folk festival includes the “Wasenboje” contact point, which opens daily1:00 p.mis open and serves as a contact point for help. Animals are also not permitted on the festival grounds, with the exception of guide dogs.
