Atlético Madrid have Stuttgart's top scorer Woltemade in their sights!

Atlético Madrid is interested in Nick Woltemade, the 23-year-old attacker from VfB Stuttgart. According to a report in the Spanish sports newspaper AS Woltemade has developed into a top performer at his club this season and, together with Ermedin Demirovic, is Stuttgart's top scorer. This season he scored an impressive 17 competitive goals, including a goal in the DFB Cup final against Arminia Bielefeld, which was won 4-2.

Woltemade came to Stuttgart from Werder Bremen on a free transfer at the beginning of the season and is seen as a coup by sports director Fabian Wohlgemuth and his scouting team. The player quickly developed into a regular player and is now VfB's most successful goalscorer in the Bundesliga and the DFB Cup. His contract runs until 2028 and there is no release clause.

Impressive stats and style of play

Woltemade's performance data speaks for itself: he scored five goals in his last eight Bundesliga games, which underlines his status as a key player. In 19 games he scored a total of eight goals in the Bundesliga and also contributed three goals in three DFB Cup games. His excellent playing style is characterized by a smooth run and fine ball work. At 198 cm, he is one of the tallest players in the Bundesliga, only Skenny Alvaro towers over him at 2.02 m.

His impressive statistics are underlined by over eleven actions per game in the opposition penalty area, which is the best of any striker in Europe's top five leagues. Woltemade, who made history as the youngest Bundesliga player at Werder Bremen, also has a strong record from his time in the 3rd division, where he showed outstanding performances in a loan spell at Elversberg.

A look into the future

In a recent fan survey, Woltemade was voted the best player in the 3rd league. After returning to Werder Bremen, he scored a brace in his 39th Bundesliga game in 30 appearances. Now he dreams of taking part in the 2026 World Cup and sees the path from the U21 to the national team as not being far. This is particularly noteworthy as he is expected to be an important support for the German selection at the Junior European Championships in June. However, Woltemade has not yet had any contact with national coach Julian Nagelsmann.

The Bundesliga stands out in the European football landscape, especially because of its many talents. In a ranking by the English “Guardian”, many players from the Bundesliga are represented with a total of nine youngsters, which confirms the league as an academic breeding ground for future stars. This is also reflected in the outstanding achievements of Woltemade, who is attracting attention not only in Stuttgart but also internationally.

Atlético Madrid's interest in Woltemade could be the start of a new phase in his career and the next few months will be crucial in seeing how his path develops.
