Waiblingen Rathausplatz becomes a pop-up playroom” for families!
From July 7, 2025, the town hall square in Waiblingen will once again become a lively venue for families, children and visitors. As part of the “Pop Up Beach Club for Kids” project, the space will be transformed into a temporary playroom until the beginning of October. The aim is to create an inviting ambience that increases the quality of stay in public spaces and attracts families. The playground will offer a variety of attractions, including a sandpit, game tables made of Euro pallets, a table tennis table and a large chess field, as zvw.de reports.
The period of the pop-up offer extends until September 29, 2025. There were various participation formats in advance to capture the needs of the most important target groups, which consist of teenagers, young adults, commuters and young families. A special idea also goes out to the best agers, who could use the new playing area to spend time with children and grandchildren. With this measure, the city center is being actively redesigned in order to improve both the leisure activities and the quality of life, explains the city of Waiblingen in its statement.
Playground equipment
Particularly noteworthy is the sandpit, which has an area of around 10 m² and is shaded to enable the little visitors to play comfortably. Five planters with benches are placed around the sandbox, allowing parents to comfortably observe their children's play. The construction of these play and lounge areas is made possible by the financial support of local institutions such as the BdS Waiblingen, the Kreissparkasse Waiblingen and the Volksbank Stuttgart eG in the amount of €5,000 each, as waiblingen.de supplements.
Sandal sets can be purchased at the Waiblingen Tourist Information for just €2.50. The proceeds from the sale will benefit a school building project for orphans in Uganda, which was started by Alfonso Fazio. The initiative aims to not only create an entertaining offer for families in Waiblingen, but also to make a social contribution.
Urban change and future prospects
The redesign of the town hall square is part of the comprehensive transformation process of Waiblingen's city center, which was initiated by WTM GmbH and the Stadt + Handel office from Dortmund. The aim of this initiative is to create a sustainable and resilient city center for urban society and visitors. This process is particularly important in times of structural change in retail and social transformation processes that also affect Waiblingen.
The “Pop Up Beach Club for Kids” is a further step towards a multifunctional city center that is perceived not only as a shopping location, but also as a residential and cultural center. The campaign represents an important contribution to increasing the quality of stay in the heart of Waiblingen and creates a new, attractive offer for all city residents and their guests.
