Waiblingen gets the House of Music”: a central place for creativity!
The city of Waiblingen is facing a cultural turning point. A new “House of Music” is being planned to bring together the city’s diverse musical activities. This is reported by ZVW. The city council has now unanimously decided to lift the blocking note in the budget, which clears the way for the next steps in the planning. The decision, which was made despite critical voices from within the community, shows the desire for an impact on a central musical institution in Waiblingen.
Choirs, orchestras and bands currently use 42 different locations to hold lessons and rehearsals in Waiblingen. These include school buildings, churches and even fire stations. This distribution is not only logistical chaos, but also organizationally inefficient, as head of the cultural department Thomas Vuk emphasizes. The need for a central, fully equipped building for the music school is therefore particularly emphasized, as this not only improves the situation for the musicians, but also creates space for additional offerings.
The advantages of the “Haus der Musik”
The planned “House of Music” will offer a total of 15 rooms in a central location. The 35 rooms currently in use at the Unteres Remstal Music School are currently spread across 13 locations, while the municipal orchestra rehearses in ten rooms at seven locations. Relocating to a single location could significantly increase the organization's bbw improvement while expanding opportunities for cultural participation.
The city has already identified the suitable location: the gallery car park, which is centrally located and well connected. To compensate for the loss of parking spaces, the city is planning to build a parking deck, while the decision against an underground car park was made for cost reasons. The investment in the “House of Music” is also seen as bringing traffic to the city center, which has additional economic significance.
Diverse offers and future planning
The new “House of Music” will not only be a rehearsal room for producing musicians, but also a platform for early musical education, music therapy and digital music formats. A “fictitious spatial program” is currently being developed to carry out a needs analysis. 100,000 euros have already been released in the 2025 budget for the rough study. After the rough study, an architectural competition is planned for the project in order to find the best ideas for implementation.
Overall, the project not only offers a solution to the acute spatial problems faced by Waiblingen musicians, but also contributes to strengthening cultural cooperation within the city. The “House of Music” could therefore be an important step towards a better cultural infrastructure in Waiblingen, according to Stuttgarter News.
