Students learn life-saving qualities: First first aid day in Stollberg!

The first first aid day took place on June 24, 2025 at the Carl von Bach High School in Stollberg. The organizers Ronny Günther and Romy Hansel had set themselves the goal of launching a long-term initiative to promote first aid knowledge at the school. During this event, students were able to learn how to respond to emergencies through practical exercises. The demonstration in which Ronny Günther applied fake blood to realistic wounds on volunteers was particularly impressive. This fake blood is usually used for the Halloween party at the Plohn amusement park, which further motivated the students and loosened up the exercise.

The first aid day is an extension and in-depth work of the school medical service (SSD) at the high school that started in 2014. The aim of the SSD is to train students so that they can help in the event of accidents, injuries or sudden illnesses in everyday school life. The training in the SSD corresponds to the standards of first aid training for companies and also includes topics such as trauma management and how to use a defibrillator. This comprehensive training is intended not only to give young people the necessary tools, but also to strengthen their sense of responsibility in order to be able to act safely in critical situations.

The school medical service was launched in January 2014 and has been looked after by the Workers' Samaritan Association in the Erzgebirge since January 2019. The team currently consists of 14 students, divided into 8 girls and 6 boys. They meet every 14 days on Tuesdays at 1:00 p.m. in room 8 to refresh and deepen their knowledge. In critical cases, the paramedics are alerted via the high school secretariat, which enables a quick response.

The medical equipment was also updated for the 2019/2020 school year. This includes modern medical clothing and new medical backpacks, which are available to school paramedics. Under the leadership of Michael Köhler and the school medical service manager Jamie Weber, the students can act as trained helpers despite their age through their training and thus make a valuable contribution to safety at the high school.

Interested students have the opportunity to apply to work in the school medical service. Requests for medical coverage can be addressed informally to the school medical service by email, short letter or verbally.

These initiatives are part of a comprehensive school safety and health program that strengthens students' life skills and promotes their community engagement. First Aid Day represents the effort to be prepared for emergencies with knowledge and practices and to be able to help others in difficult situations.

Free press reports that this day represents an important step in promoting and consolidating first aid skills among students. The Stollberg High School thus makes a significant contribution to improving the safety and well-being of its students.
