Discover the most beautiful mills in the Swabian Forest at Pentecost!

The 32nd German Mill Day will take place in the Swabian Forest on Whit Monday, June 9, 2025. On this special day, nine mills open their doors and invite visitors to discover the fascinating world of mills. The event opens at the Michelau oil mill in Rudersberg, which is being celebrated on the occasion of its 50th birthday.

The main hiking trail stretches over 37 kilometers and leads past a total of 13 preserved mills. Mills offering programs and entertainment on Mill Day include:

  • Heinlesmühle
  • Menzlesmühle
  • Meuschenmühle
  • Hagmühle
  • Voggenbergmühle
  • Hummelgautsche
  • Seemühle (Unterweissach)
  • Ölmühle Michelau (Rudersberg)
  • Brandhofer Öl- und Sägmühle (Gschwend)

Special events and programs

A highlight of Mill Day is the ecumenical open-air service that takes place at several mills. The service begins at 10 a.m. at the Menzlesmühle and is accompanied by local musicians. The event attracts visitors from the region, including prominent personalities such as Mayor Michael Clauss and District Administrator Richard Sigel.

The Heinlesmühle, which dates back to the 16th century, offers a glimpse into its long history, while the Hummelgautsche, a 14th-century sawmill, continues its tradition into the 1950s. The Meuschenmühle has a child-friendly craft program and guided tours in its program. The Hagmühle and the Voggenbergmühle also invite you to a church service.

Regional products and more

The Voggenbergmühle is particularly notable because it is the only mill still used commercially on the hiking trail and produces various types of flour and animal feed. Visitors can take part in the “Glass Production” and learn more about flour production. The mill shop is also open.

Another attraction are the demonstrations at the mills, where mill wheels can be seen in action and how mills work is explained. There are also various catering options, including in the Mühlenschenke and the Klingenmühle beer garden, which are complemented by live music and special gastronomic offerings.

For further information about the events and hiking trails, the Swabian Forest Tourism Association website is available. Interested visitors can find all the details about the participating mills and a varied program here. Preparing for this traditional mill day promises a special experience for the entire family.

Overall, Mill Day in the Swabian Forest will not only be a celebration of tradition, but also an opportunity to enjoy the beauty of nature and the history of the region. Visit the mills and be amazed by the variety on offer.
