In an incredible story full of hardships and spiritual discovery, 38-year-old Michael Haberkorn from Grunbach is on a breathtaking pilgrimage around the world! Since May he has set out to explore the mysterious trails of Spain, Scotland, Ireland and Norway - and now this extraordinary adventurer is making history in Japan! ZVW reports that his journey is expected to last until November and that he is embarking on the adventure of a lifetime, mostly walking along historic pilgrimage routes.

The breathtaking pilgrimage routes of Japan
Japan is famous for its frightening landscapes and mystical culture - a country where pilgrimages have been an integral part of life since the Nara period (710-794). Surprisingly, pilgrimage flourished in the Heian period (up to the 12th century), as people from all walks of life set out to seek the sacred and discover the incredible spirituality of this land. It's incredible what we can learn from this fascinating heritage!
The three most exciting pilgrimage routes that Michael wants to take are:
- Shikoku Pilgerweg: Dieser unglaubliche Rundweg umfasst 88 „offizielle“ Tempel und ist über 1.200 Kilometer lang! Die Herausforderung: bis zu 30 Kilometer am Tag, im Schnitt 6 Wochen!
