Marcel Kiesenebner (17) from Nußbach was recognized as Upper Austria's best young baker in the Junior Skills of Craft Bakers. The competition, in which 14 girls and one boy took part, was characterized by high demands and time pressure. The young bakers had to demonstrate what they had learned in various tasks. The tests included shaping Wecken, pretzel sticks, pretzels, poppy seed cakes, brioche cakes and a number of creative Danish pastry creations. In addition, a written exam had to be completed that tested the theoretical knowledge of the participants, as reported by nachrichten.at.

The challenge that young bakers had to overcome in this competition was not only a test of their practical skills, but also an exciting experience to compete with their peers.

AustrianSkills 2025 in Salzburg

For those who want to advance in the baking industry, registration for the state trade championships is now available. These will take place from November 20th to 23rd, 2025 in the Salzburg Exhibition Center. Over 550 participants are expected in 53 competitive disciplines, with the aim of winning the national championship title and qualifying for WorldSkills 2026 and EuroSkills 2027. The competition days are scheduled for November 20th to 22nd, 2025 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., followed by the awards ceremony on November 23rd at 2 p.m. diehandwerksbaecker.at highlights that several international competitions will also take place, which are intended to attract a wide audience.

Around 30,000 visitors are expected on an area of ​​21,000 square meters, who will have free access to the events. In addition to the competitions, there are also the “Try a Skill” stations, the Career Information Fair (BIM) and the BeSt, which are aimed at students, parents, teachers and training companies.

Participation in these competitions requires completion of vocational or school training in Austria as well as knowledge of job-specific English. While there is no minimum age for participation, participants must be 18 years old at the time of the international competitions. In addition, there is an age limit of a maximum of 22 years for the WorldSkills 2026 and a maximum of 25 years for the EuroSkills 2027. It is important to note that the winners of AustrianSkills are not automatically nominated for international competitions.
