CDU rejects ISEK 2.0: Urban development in Senden under pressure!
The Senden Building and Planning Committee recently discussed the Integrated Urban Development Concept (ISEK) 2.0. The CDU was the only faction to oppose the administration's proposed action plan. This concept brings together seven individual measures that should be “decided in principle” in order to actually advance urban development. CDU spokeswoman Gaby Vogdt called for a separate political decision on each individual project and underlined the need for precise cost control, especially since funding for these measures is only 50 percent. The ISEK should focus on the essential projects in order to maximize the benefits for the community. According to the WN, the discussion about the ISEK is an important step in the community's development because it forms the basis for future individual urban development measures.
The ISEK was designed as a basis for discussion and decision-making for the public, city center stakeholders and political committees. Its aim is to strengthen and expand the city center as an attractive residential location with an outstanding supply structure and quality of stay. The city has already chosen an innovative approach to citizen participation: Online participation was carried out with Mypinion in order to incorporate the population's suggestions and wishes for urban development into the design of the ISEK. This phase of citizen participation spanned six weeks, from July 14, 2016 to August 25, 2016, and participants were able to locate and describe their suggestions digitally.
Citizen participation and its categories
The collected contributions from citizens were classified into five categories to enable a structured evaluation:
- Wohnen und Wohnumfeld
- Handel, Dienstleistung und Gewerbe
- Natur und Freizeit
- Mobilität und Verkehr
- Stadtbild und öffentlicher Raum
The inclusion of citizens' opinions shows that the city not only relies on top-down decisions, but also respects the will of its citizens and integrates them into its planning. This could significantly contribute to strengthening the community and improving the quality of life in Senden. It remains to be seen how the discussions about ISEK 2.0 will develop and what specific measures will ultimately be implemented.
The ISEK therefore represents a central building block in urban development and could form the basis for a sustainable and citizen-oriented further development of the city of Senden. The challenges facing the city require a thoughtful and comprehensive approach to adapt the urban landscape to the needs of its residents, as the Stadt Senden emphasizes.
