NDR legend Carlo von Tiedemann died in Hamburg at the age of 81
The NDR presenter Carlo von Tiedemann has died at the age of 81. His wife confirmed this to NDR. The death of the popular presenter occurred in Hamburg, as the family announced. Von Tiedemann had worked for Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR) since 1971 and became known through television programs such as “Die aktuell Schaubude” and through audio programs such as “Hamburg am Mittag” and “Große Freiheit”. Stuttgart News reports on the many memories that the audience associates with him.
Carlo von Tiedemann was born on October 20, 1943 in Stargard, Pomerania. His family had to flee to Hamburg in 1945 due to the war. His father was a lieutenant general in the Prussian army and his mother's name was Fides von Kleist. He struggled with health problems during his childhood, suffering from polio and later having two brain tumors. Despite these setbacks, after an apprenticeship as a publishing clerk, he began a career in the media, which took him to Buenos Aires, among other things, as a police reporter for the “Hamburger Abendblatt” and as a correspondent for the Springer foreign service. NWZ Online emphasizes that Tiedemann was a real “NDR veteran,” as director Joachim Knuth put it.
An impressive career
His career at NDR was long and marked by numerous highlights. Tiedemann performed with legends like Victoria Voncampe and Alida Gundlach. From 1991 to 1998 he was also a stadium announcer for HSV and had smaller roles in television series such as “Großstadtrevier”. He also had his own project on ZDF, “Show and Co. with Carlo”, which was discontinued in 1986.
In the 80s, however, he also found himself in the headlines: drugs, prostitutes and debt dominated his life for a while. Tiedemann took responsibility for this crash and fought his way back, paying off his debts over twelve years, demonstrating his determination and strength of character.
Commitment and legacy
Carlo von Tiedemann was not only an entertainment professional, but also a person with a big heart. He was committed to the Hamburg Children's Hospice Foundation “ Sternenbrücke ” and thus left a lasting positive impression on society.
With his death, the media landscape loses a unique character that shaped generations of listeners and viewers. The memories of his great passion for radio and television will live on in people's hearts for a long time.
