Leon Munk wins the kart slalom in Fellbach – an exciting race!

Last Sunday, the exciting karting event took place in the parking lot of the SuP-Trans company on Eisenbahnstrasse, in which Leon Munk from RTC Fellbach triumphed in the K4 age group. The young driver prevailed against strong competition in the e-kart race and completed the slalom course twice without making any mistakes. With a considerable gap of over two seconds to second-placed Ben Layer from MSC Backnang, Munk secured first place. Despite impressive performances from Luis Conti from MSC Bittenfeld, who was faster than Munk in both runs, he finished the competition in sixth place due to a four-second penalty for driving around two bollards. This makes it clear that sometimes skill alone is not enough to stay at the top, as Stuttgarter Nachrichten reports.

Leon Munk's success is a good example of the challenges and excitement that await young talents in karting. The German Kart Slalom Championship (DKSM) offers a platform on which young drivers can compete. The dmsj and the ADAC kart slalom national final are two of the most important season highlights for these young drivers. From 2025, a merger of these two competitions will take place in order to crown one German kart slalom champion in each of five classes. This is envisaged by merging the two championships, which previously had different qualification modes, number of participants and championship processes, as ADAC Motorsport explains.

Merger of championships and new rules

A central goal of this merger is to avoid duplicate structures, make optimal use of synergies and create fair competition conditions. There are around 260 starting places planned for this in the German Kart Slalom Championship. Of these, 150 starting places are awarded based on the sporting achievements of the drivers in the state motorsport associations. A calculation key based on the results of the last five years is intended to ensure equal opportunities. Wildcards will also be awarded to ADAC regional clubs, DMV and ACV to enable even more drivers to take part.

The exciting news for the future of karting in Germany is the introduction of electrically powered karts from 2024, which will also be used as part of the merged championships from 2025. In the future, the events will take place annually at different locations in Germany and will be based on the previous concept of the ADAC kart slalom national final. The ADAC e.V. has also taken over the promotership of karting and will increasingly be involved in supporting the karting slalom community with sporting issues and the framework tender, which sounds promising for the future of karting.
