On June 4, 2025, a very special event will take place in Fellbach: On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Eduard Mörike's death, the renowned publisher and author Michael Krüger will present his personal homage entitled “Appointment with Mörike”. The event begins in the Fellbach city library and begins with an introductory lecture by Christa Linsenmaier-Wolf about the anniversary of Mörike's death and his connections to the city.

Mörike, who died on June 4, 1875 in Stuttgart, lived in Fellbach in the last years of his life after his marriage failed. Although his works are not widely published, they are appreciated by literary connoisseurs. Mörike, who lived from 1804 to 1875, is valued for his unique ability to combine the fantastic and wonderful in his poetry, which sets him apart from the masses German biography.

Mörike Prize and Literature Festival

In addition to the homage, the Mörike Prize will be awarded in 2024. This prize is endowed with 15,000 euros and this year goes to the Czech author Jaroslav Rudiš, whose work includes numerous novels, stories and plays. The award ceremony will take place on May 15, 2024 and will be carried out by Fellbach's mayor Gabriele Zull, with a trusted person from the jury making the suggestion for the award. The Mörike Prize has been awarded every three years since 1991 and is part of the “Prose, Pop & Poetry” literature festival, which takes place from April to July 2024. The event is supplemented by a Mörike speech by the award winner, which is part of the award ceremony.

Michael Krüger's homage and the award-winning literature are part of a cultural appreciation and show how important Eduard Mörike was for Swabian poetry. In addition to Krüger's reading, the award-winning authors will be presented in the Mörike Cabinet of the City Museum, where their portraits and autographs are on display.

The event on June 4, 2025 in the Fellbach city library will include a selection of Mörike poems, which Krüger will enrich with his own comments. Admission is 8 euros, while access is free for schoolchildren, students and people with disabilities.
