Travelers from the Rems-Murr district should exercise particular caution in the near future if they want to take the S-Bahn to Stuttgart Airport. The railway is currently carrying out important construction work, which is leading to significant restrictions on the timetable. Loud ZVW S-Bahn trains will often not run to the airport in the near future. Travelers may have to change in Vaihingen or even before.
To ensure everything runs smoothly, it is advisable to be prepared to change to a replacement bus or the light rail. A shuttle service with a regional train will be set up between Stuttgart main station and Vaihingen. From Vaihingen you then take the S2 to the airport. The restrictions began on June 7, 2025 and will last until June 15, 2025.
Details about the construction work
As the VVS reported, the construction site particularly affects the U7 line, which runs between Ostfildern Nellingen and Suttnerstrasse. The route was adjusted during the same period as the S-Bahn construction work: the section between Suttnerstrasse and Mönchfeld is no longer available, and the Freiberg and Mönchfeld stops are not served. A replacement service with buses on the U7E line is to be set up between Himmelsleiter and Mönchfeld to compensate for the restrictions.
The U7 trains depart from Nellingen Ostfildern at regular departure times. At the Suttnerstrasse stop, passengers must ensure that boarding and alighting is only possible on the platform facing out of town. The U7E buses cannot serve the Suttnerstraße stop coming from Mönchfeld, so passengers can remain on U7E buses to reach Suttnerstraße on the journey towards Mönchfeld.
These measures are intended to keep the impact of the track construction work near Mönchfeld as low as possible. Travelers are advised to check current connections before traveling and consider alternative routes if necessary.
