HCOB celebrates a strong victory: 35:26 against Hildesheim in the promotion duel!

On June 1, 2025, an eagerly awaited promotion round game took place in the MURRTAL-ARENA, in which HC Oppenweiler/Backnang (HCOB) achieved an impressive win against HC Eintracht Hildesheim. With a final score of 35:26, the players made their ambitions for the second Bundesliga clear in front of 1,400 enthusiastic spectators. HC Oppenweiler/Backnang reports that the strong performance of goalkeeper Janis Boieck, who was described as outstanding, contributed significantly to the success.

The HCOB started the game brilliantly and led 3-0 after just three minutes. This strong initial phase continued and after 11 minutes the score was already 9:3. The Hildesheim team had noticeable difficulties in taking advantage of their chances, which resulted in 23 missed throws and 11 technical errors. Coach Daniel Deutsch saw the mistakes as not suitable for the second division. At halftime, HCOB led comfortably 20-10, thanks to solid defense and quick attacks. BKZ highlights that the HCOB successfully defended their lead after the break, despite a brief rebellion from the guests.

Celebration and separation

The final minutes remained exciting as HCOB scored additional goals on offense and ended the game with a clear 35:26. Coach Stephan Just was proud of the team and their performance in the promotion round. It was not only a victory, but also an emotional moment as several players were bid farewell after the last home game. The HCOB also won 17 home games this season.

Elias Newel, who was the most noticeable player with 11 goals, was called up for the Germany U21 national team for the World Cup in Poland. The HCOB will now travel to the second leg in Hildesheim with a 9-goal cushion, which will take place next Saturday. The dream of promotion to the second Bundesliga seems to be within reach.

HCOB played in white away jerseys because Hildesheim's jerseys were too similar. The high number of spectators and the breathtaking atmosphere underline the growing interest in the HCOB games, whose sporting director Jochen Bartels praised the team's performance, but also emphasized that there is still a second leg to come. The anticipation for the next game is already palpable.
