FlixTrain is planning expansion: cheap connections for East Württemberg in sight!

FlixTrain, an active competitor of Deutsche Bahn in long-distance transport since 2017, is planning to expand its network, which could also include East Württemberg. While official confirmation of the inclusion of destinations such as Aalen, Schwäbisch Gmünd or Ellwangen is still pending, the increasing demand for cheap long-distance connections shows the brand's potential. Travelers can currently use a combination ticket system from Aalen or Schwäbisch Gmünd to take regional trains to Stuttgart and then change to a FlixTrain to reach attractive destinations such as Frankfurt, Berlin or Hamburg.

The advantages of FlixTrain lie primarily in the modern high-speed trains, which can reach speeds of up to 230 km/h. Travelers also benefit from free Wi-Fi, barrier-free access and prices that are often less than 10 euros if booked early. The prices adapt dynamically to the capacity utilization and travel time savings of up to 30% are possible compared to conventional connections. However, there is currently no direct connection to East Württemberg, which is why regional trains to Stuttgart play an important role.

New combination ticket and expanded connections

FlixTrain is now offering a new combination ticket that allows customers to travel from long-distance train stations with regional trains to their final destination. A total of around 200 additional cities can be reached via this combination ticket, with the cooperation taking place within the framework of the Germany tariff association. Most of these regional connections are operated by Deutsche Bahn, while FlixTrain remains active on its long-distance routes.

The new connections significantly expand the possible applications, while cities such as Ulm, Tübingen and Kaiserslautern are being added in southern Germany. FlixTrain is part of the Flix mobility platform, which is also firmly established in the bus business, where Flix is the market leader in Germany and other countries. However, in rail transport, Flix has a small market share in the low single-digit percentage range. Nevertheless, there is a clear growth plan to increase this share.

The network expansion in East Württemberg is currently being planned, although no specific dates are yet known. However, travelers can look forward to ongoing improvements to the FlixTrain offering, which could also bring positive changes to this region.
