Heidenheim's U17 and U15 triumph in the cup final - double victory!
The youth teams of 1. FC Heidenheim celebrated great successes last weekend. The club's U17 team won the association cup, securing their third title in the last four years. During the course of the tournament, the young people showed strong performances, which are now accompanied by a change of coach.
In the round of 16 there was a thrilling duel in which FCH defeated VfB Stuttgart. In the quarter-finals, the Heidenheimers beat the Stuttgarter Kickers 4-2. The semi-final was also closely fought, but was won with a narrow 3:2 against SGV Freiberg. In the final there was a deserved 2-0 win against FC Esslingen, with FCH taking the lead in the 30th minute and scoring the decisive goal shortly after half-time.
U15 successes
But not only the U17 was successful, the FCH U15 also won the cup. After an impressive 6-2 win in the quarter-finals against VfB Friedrichshafen and a 2-1 in the semi-finals against SSV Ulm, the team triumphed 5-2 over FC Esslingen in the final. Jules Stern, the U15 coach, praised the development of his team, which has steadily improved over the past few months.
Roger Prinzen, the sporting director of the youth performance center, was also pleased with the achievements of both teams and emphasized how important these successes are for the future of the club. The victories show that the youth work at FCH is on the right track.
A new era with Patrick Mayer
The successes of the youth teams coincide with a change in the U17 coaching bench. Patrick Mayer, a former player at 1. FC Heidenheim, will take over as coach from the new season. Mayer is returning to his hometown club, which he represented for 111 games from 2009 to 2015, scoring 42 goals and providing 17 assists. The return of the ex-professional is a sign of the close connection between the club and its former players.
In his new role, he succeeds Achim Imrich, who is leaving the club at his own request. CEO Holger Sanwald emphasizes that the integration of former players into the club structure is of great importance and can be beneficial for the training of young talent. Under Mayer's leadership, the U17 will compete in the EnBW-Oberliga Baden-Württemberg next season after the team was previously relegated from the B-Junioren-Bundesliga.
