German teams triumph at the BECC: Heidenheim and Bonn win clearly!

On June 14, 2025, the German baseball teams Bonn Capitals and VOITH Heidenheim Heideköpfe celebrated a promising start in the Baseball European Champions Cup (BECC) 2025. Both teams were able to win their games clearly and thus marked a strong start to the competition. The games will take place between May 17 and July 30, 2025, with a total of six European teams fighting for the title.

Heidenheim played against BK Olimpija Karlovac from Croatia on Saturday evening and won 15:4. The game was characterized by a dominant performance by the Heidenheim team, which ended the game early after seven innings. William Germaine was the game's standout player after hitting an RBI double in the first inning and contributing a total of three hits, three RBIs and a two-run home run in the sixth inning. Early in the game, Heidenheim scored three runs in the first, two in the second and three in the third inning. Although Karlovac became more successful from the fourth inning onwards, it was not enough to break Heidenheim's dominance. Heidenheim will play at HellensteinEnergie Ballpark on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Successful performance by the Bonn Capitals

At the same time, the Bonn Capitals played away against the Astros Valencia. After trailing 0-2, Bonn was able to turn the game around and win 11-3. A defining moment was a 3-run home run by Eric Brenk in the fourth inning that gave the Capitals the lead. Bonn extended its lead to 6-3 in the fifth inning and scored five more runs in the ninth inning, including on a 3-RBI triple by Terrell Joyce. The next game for the Bonn Capitals takes place on Sunday at 12:00 p.m.

Competition overview and participants

The BECC 2025 includes two groups: Group A consists of the Bonn Capitals, Draci Brno from the Czech Republic and the Valencia Astros, while Group B includes the Heidenheim Heideköpfe, Olimpija Karlovac and Trebič Nuclears. Draci Brno, the defending champion, and Heidenheim are making their second appearance, while Bonn and Karlovac are newcomers to the competition. The Bonn Capitals currently lead the North German Baseball League with 10 wins and 0 losses, while Heidenheim is in second place in the South Division of the German Baseball League with 9 wins and 3 losses.

The BECC's league format includes home and away games played as doubleheaders on consecutive days. Each team will play six games in the group stage before the final decides on July 30, 2025.
