In the final of the M15 ITF tournament in Heraklion, the Estonian tennis professionals Kristjan Tamm and the Greek Petros Tsitsipas suffered a narrow defeat. The third-seeded pairing lost to the fourth-seeded team of Ethan Cook of Australia and Diogo Marques of Portugal 6-4, 4-6, 6-10, as sport.err.ee reports.
The decisive third set was characterized by tension. Tamm and Tsitsipas initially fell behind 1:3, but managed to equalize to 3:3 and 4:4. Nevertheless, they had to admit defeat to their stronger opponents again with a deficit of 4:7 before the match finally ended. On the way to the final, Tamm and Tsitsipas beat three strong opponents.
Tamm and Tsitsipas successful in doubles
Kristjan Tamm, who at the age of 26 has already won two ITF doubles titles this year, was again in good form. In April he won the title in Sharm el Sheikh with his partner Ben Jones, and two weeks before the final in Heraklion, Tamm and Tsitsipas also triumphed in that city. tennisnet.ee points out that this was the second time this month that Tamm had reached the doubles final of an ITF tournament.
In the semifinals, Tamm and Tsitsipas triumphed over the Brazilian duo Johao Victor Couto Loreiro and the Spaniard Rafael Izquierdo Luque 7:5, 7:5. Both sets ended with decisive breaks at 6:5. The first set was characterized by two breaks, while the decisive break in the second set came at 40:40.
