In Bietigheim-Bissingen, an increasing number of traffic accidents is causing discontent among residents. Klaus Balm has publicly criticized the existing bollards and road narrowings, which, in his opinion, not only disrupt the flow of traffic but also promote dangerous situations. Particularly worrying is the traffic situation at a bakery, where speeders are seen violating speed regulations more often, without the city administration having taken effective action.

Balm is actively involved in the interests of his neighborhood. He asked the town hall for remedial action, held discussions with authorities and even collected 55 signatures to draw attention to the problem. Still reported the Bietigheimer Zeitung that tougher measures have not yet been taken. Balm now plans to file a lawsuit in the administrative court to combat the city's inaction.

Inadequate traffic enforcement

There is a demand for regular mobile speed checks and the installation of a stationary speed camera in critical road areas. At the same time, Balm emphasizes the urgency of implementing the requirements of the noise protection and fine dust plan. The city administration backtracks and explains that the residents' complaints are exaggerated and only occur sporadically. She supports her statement by pointing to a high number of vehicles, but with only a few reckless drivers.

According to the city's official statement, the local police are already carrying out checks and the measures to reduce speeding are having an effect. Nevertheless, uncertainty remains among residents. The issues surrounding traffic should not be taken lightly, as the safety of pedestrians and cyclists is also at stake.

Bollards – safety or obstacle?

Another point of discussion is the bollards installed in the community, which were originally intended to keep pedestrian and bicycle paths clear. How the DBSV highlights, bollards can also be problematic. They must be designed in such a way that they are easily visible to all pedestrians without hindering older people or people with limited mobility.

The majority of bollards are too low and often not adequately marked, which poses a danger to blind and visually impaired pedestrians. They should also have a minimum height of 90 cm to avoid tripping hazards. Experts warn that bollards should only be used if alternatives such as grass verges are not available.

The city administration must ensure that new measures both regulate traffic and promote the safety of all road users, especially vulnerable groups. At the same time, regular checks and maintenance are essential to guarantee the effectiveness of the measures.

The discussion about traffic safety measures in Bietigheim-Bissingen remains tense, and residents are hoping for early solutions to their concerns.
