New Arsenalplatz in Ludwigsburg: Celebrate with music and art!

Arsenalplatz in Ludwigsburg will officially open on June 6th and 7th, 2025. This long-awaited redesign of the square is the result of a multi-year planning process that was heavily influenced by citizen participation. The city administration has prepared a varied program of music, art and gastronomy, which will take place from 11 a.m. on both days. The “Café Little Prince” gastronomy pavilion opens its doors on June 6th at 11 a.m., followed by an informative part in which the city administration provides information about the history and redesign of the square until 3 p.m.

On the afternoon of June 6th, performances by the band Valle de Luna and artists from the Labyrinth art school are on the program. The evening part is rounded off by a DJ who plays at the pavilion from 6 p.m. June 7th brings further highlights with performances by street artists, while a DJ will provide musical entertainment from 4 p.m. The café will be closed on Whit Sunday and Monday, but regular operations will begin on June 10th and will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and even until 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

New place for citizens

With an area of around 8,000 square meters, Arsenalplatz offers a wide range of leisure activities. The area is equipped with benches, mobile chairs, drinking fountains, table tennis tables and an impressive fountain field with 20 water jets. As part of the redesign, 41 new, climate-resilient trees, including bluebell and bird cherry trees, were planted, while 19 trees were retained. To ensure a water supply for the plants, rainwater is absorbed through a permeable surface and a cistern is used for irrigation.

The new multifunctional area of 700 square meters can be used for performances, sporting events or markets. Regular events are already being planned, including outdoor concerts, music series, sporting activities such as “Active in the Park” and flea markets. In addition, a good lighting concept is planned that includes programmable brightness and is intended to guarantee low light pollution.

Financing and sustainable urban development

The financial aspects of the redevelopment of Arsenalplatz are also significant. The total costs of this measure amount to around 4.8 million euros. Of this, around 2.4 million euros come from urban development funding, with 60% coming from the federal and state governments and 40% from the city of Ludwigsburg itself. In addition, the Kreissparkasse will also receive 2.4 million euros in urban development funding for an underground car park with 145 parking spaces, which will replace the lost parking spaces.

The project is based on the goals of sustainable urban development. This includes aspects such as the creation and maintenance of jobs, social and cultural needs, as well as environmental protection and flood protection. Arsenalplatz will therefore not only become a place for relaxation and encounters, but also an example of sustainable urban design that harmonizes social, economic and ecological concerns. This also shows that urban development increasingly goes beyond functionality and creates lively, livable settlements that are shaped by citizen participation and innovative ideas - as the comprehensive analysis of urban development by the Federal Environment Agency makes clear.

The preparation for the opening and future events promise to make Arsenalplatz a central place of activity in Ludwigsburg, where city residents and visitors alike can experience the joy of culture, nature and community.
