Storm devastates Rems-Murr district: Fire brigade fights against fallen trees!

On Saturday, October 4th, 2025, a strong storm passed over the Rems-Murr district and caused significant damage and the fire department was called out. Fallen trees and flying branches were reported in several municipalities, including Schnait and Rudersberg. The situation led to power outages in some areas as emergency services battled the aftermath of the storm. According to information from ZVW Numerous firefighters were deployed to clear the streets.

This is not the first incident of this kind, as the Rems-Murr district experienced a violent storm on August 25, 2023, which led to over 50 “storm-related operations”. Fallen trees and damaged overhead lines played a central role in the affected communities of Rems and Murr. The rescue operation was particularly dramatic for a 78-year-old man who was walking in the forest with his dog and was hit by a fallen tree. However, he was able to make an emergency call, which made the rescue significantly easier. Despite the adverse conditions, a relief team managed to reach and transport him around 8:40 p.m. before the approaching rain prevented the deployment of a special helicopter. Stuttgart News reported that the man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Getting back into everyday life

The effects of the storm were manifested not only in rescue operations, but also in rail traffic, where many trains were forced to make emergency braking due to fallen trees and lightning strikes. The disruptions in the power grid were also noticeable for the population, although power supply could usually be restored within around 60 minutes.

The day after the worst events, the municipalities were busy with clean-up work. Residents actively helped clear forest paths of tree trunks to enable faster rescue and restoration of road conditions. Meteorologists are also warning of further thunderstorms until next week, which is keeping the situation in the Rems-Murr district tense.

The current developments are alarming, and the people in the Rems-Murr district are called upon to prepare for possible further natural events and to keep their safety in mind.
