Kernen celebrates 50 years: festival mile, anthem and live music on Sunday!
On June 1, 2025, an important anniversary will be celebrated in Kernen im Remstal: the community looks back on 50 years of shared history. On the occasion of this festive event, a festival mile will be set up between Rommelshausen and Stetten in which citizens and guests can honor the development of the community. This anniversary has its roots in the merger of the municipalities of Rommelshausen and Stetten in 1975 on the instructions of the state government, which was not implemented in Stetten at the time without resistance. However, the Administrative Court found that the community could not be dissolved.
Mayor Benedikt Paulowitsch describes the 50 years as “half a century of lived community history”. The celebrations begin at 10 a.m. with an ecumenical open-air service on the grounds of the Konzmann winery, organized by local churches and the trombone choir. The official opening of the community festival follows at 11 a.m., while the premiere of the Kernen anthem at 2 p.m. will be a central highlight of the day.
Program overview of the community festival
The extensive festival program promises a colorful mix of activities:
The more than 60 groups taking part in the celebrations include local clubs, churches, businesses and restaurants and wineries. The event will therefore be a platform for the entire community to show their pride in the development and successes of the past five decades.
A year full of city anniversaries
The community festival in Kernen is part of a large number of city and community anniversaries that Germany is celebrating in 2025. Other celebrations include, for example, the 50th anniversary of Filderstadt in Baden-Württemberg and Bergisch-Gladbach in North Rhine-Westphalia as well as several annual commemorations in various cities. These anniversaries are not only opportunities to look back, but also an opportunity to shape the future together.
In view of these festive occasions and the upcoming premiere of the anthem, the anticipation is palpable in Kernen. The community, which is named after the local mountain Kernen, is one of the most populous communities in the Rems-Murr district and will be a place of celebration and community on June 1, 2025.
