On the night of May 27, 2025, at 3:40 a.m., a traffic accident occurred on the federal highway 8 (BAB 8) near the Stuttgart airport/trade fair junction, with the person who caused the accident subsequently fleeing. An unknown truck driver overlooked a tractor trailer while changing lanes, which led to a fatal maneuver.
The 49-year-old driver of the tractor-trailer swerved, skidded and collided with the right guard rail. As a result of this impact, the tarpaulin of his trailer tore and around 30 crates of drinks fell onto the road. The semi-trailer was then no longer drivable and had to be towed away. The estimated material damage amounts to around 12,500 euros, as news.de and presseportal.de report.
Lane closures
As a result of the incident, the two right lanes were closed until around 11:30 a.m. This measure was necessary in order to carry out reloading by the Technical Relief Agency (THW) and for street cleaning work carried out by the motorway maintenance department.
