KED invests millions in Freiberg: New children's helmet Meggy Spark”!

KED GmbH, a renowned manufacturer of bicycle helmets, is sending a strong signal for Germany as a location. At the Freiberg am Neckar location, not only will production be retained, but massive investments will also be made in new technologies. Over two million euros will flow into new in-mold systems and energy saving concepts, which should ensure long-term production in Germany. This reports SAZbike.

Partner Dr. Christian Borsche emphasizes that quality and safety have top priority in helmet production. In an industry that is suffering from cost pressure, KED not only wants to secure jobs, but also ensure a sustainable, trustworthy product manufacturing process. The first helmet to emerge from this modernized production is the “Meggy Spark” children's helmet.

The “Meggy Spark” children’s helmet

The new “Meggy Spark” is manufactured using inmold technology, which makes it particularly light and stable. KED worked with graphic designer Mirko Borsche to develop an appealing design that offers child-friendly color and pattern options. Mirko Borsche, known for his work with international brands such as On, Nike and BMW, has created innovative designs for the helmet with KED. The colors of the “Meggy Spark” vary from pink and teal to monster mood purple and stellar stripes red, so there is something for every taste.

The helmet will be available from specialist retailers and leading online retailers from October 1, 2025. The price for the “Meggy Spark” is 49.95 euros.

An integratable multifunction LED with USB-C port can be added as an option. Further technical details include a revised ventilation concept with eight ventilation openings, integrated insect protection and a washable Keddy inner padding.

Thanks to a 360° adjustment system, the helmet can be easily adjusted to the shape of your head. The complete product is available in sizes 45-50 (S) and 50-55 (M) and weighs just 230 grams. KED also offers a quality guarantee that covers repairs in the event of wear and tear for a fee.
