Duck race in Bietigheim: Hundreds of participants and big prizes!
On Sunday, May 25, 2025, Bietigheim was transformed into a true Duckburg. The annual duck race, organized by the local Lions Club, attracted thousands of visitors to the Metter, a tributary of the Enz. Over 4,000 rubber ducks took part in the colorful swimming competition, which not only offered the spectators exciting races, but also a festive atmosphere.
The venue was perfectly chosen: next to the wooden bridge at the Japan Garden, where the mass start of the ducks took place at 2:14 p.m. This year too, the numbered ducks were available for 5 euros. The proceeds from the event support numerous social and cultural projects in the region, including therapeutic riding and the music school.
Race with many highlights
The fastest ducks could look forward to great prizes: a shopping voucher for 1000 euros for the fastest duck, followed by 500 euros for the second fastest and 38 other cash prizes between 300 and 50 euros. In addition, there was a separate race with larger rubber ducks carrying eye-catching flags and many children actively participating in the race.
The president of the Lions Club Bietigheim-Bissingen, Joachim Kölz, handed over the municipal support duck. Lions Club members sold the raffle ducks in Old Town on four Saturdays before the race, and the yellow and pink ducks were also available on race day while supplies lasted. Ducks with sponsor logos were offered for €99 and up to raise additional funds for the charitable event.
A celebration for the whole family
The event also coincided with Sunday shopping in Bietigheim's old town, which further increased visitor numbers. Creative stalls on the festival grounds provided variety, offering everything from artistic concrete prints to delicate wind turbines. Culinary delicacies such as crepes, ice cream and tarte flambée rounded off the offering.
After the race, the fire department took on the task of retrieving the rubber ducks from the Metter to prevent them from drifting into the Enz. A total of 2,985 rubber ducks were taken out of the water, meaning the event not only created exciting moments but also a strong sense of community. The high number of visitors and the crowds before the start demonstrate the great response that the duck race is enjoying for the fourth year in a row.
The community is already looking forward to next year and the continuation of this beloved tradition with great enthusiasm.
