On Autobahn 81, a group of three people lost control of their vehicles on wet roads. Fortunately, the occupants were uninjured in the accidents in Osterburken and Tauberbischofsheim.
Damage in Bisingen
As swr.de reports, the violent storms caused considerable damage in parts of Baden-Württemberg, especially in Bisingen in the Zollernalb district. Residents reported the worst storm in 40 years. However, after the thunderstorms and heavy rain, which flooded many streets and filled cellars, the weather situation eased on Friday night.
The Klingenbach in Bisingen overflowed its banks, which resulted in the state road being closed to through traffic. Police reported over 90 incident locations and hundreds of emergency calls, while a police helicopter was deployed. Mayor Roman Waizenegger described the extent of the damage as devastating, and the exact amount of property damage has not yet been determined.
General weather situation in Baden-Württemberg
There were further floods and traffic disruptions in the affected regions such as Laichingen, Steinach and Altenbach. In Heiligkreuzsteinach a slope threatened to slide and a campsite in Altneudorf was flooded. Numerous fire brigade operations were also necessary in Sigmaringendorf and Stuttgart due to lightning strikes. The German Weather Service had previously warned of heavy rain and squalls, and a severe weather warning was issued for large parts of the country.
At the weekend, temperatures are expected to rise to up to 21 degrees on the Rhine, while the weather conditions will remain cool and changeable. The severe weather warnings in Germany were lifted on Friday night, as highlighted by the DWD, but heavy rain is still expected in the west.
