Folk Music Days in Erding: Rain can't dampen the mood!

On May 28, 2025, the closing event of the Folk Music Days took place in the café of the Farmhouse Museum in Erding. Despite rainy weather, which affected visitor numbers, musicians from all over Bavaria presented a rich program that impressively reflected the diversity of Bavarian folk music. The event was organized by the city of Erding and offered a varied range of music and dance.

Due to the bad weather, many performances had to be moved to different buildings in the museum. The musical highlights of the evening included performances by the Sauboch Blosn, the Ardinger Dreigsang and the Ampertaler Kirtamusi. There was also folk dancing in the barn led by Helga and Roland Lipka. The Edelweiß-Stamm Erding local and traditional costume association was also active: with around 170 members, including 30 children, they enriched the program considerably.

A variety of events during the Folk Music Days

The Folk Music Days began on Friday with folk song singing in primary schools and retirement homes, organized by the Erding District Music School. On Friday evening there was a Hoagarten in the Erdinger Weißbräu, where various music groups and the humorist Xaver Reiser ensured a good atmosphere. On Saturday evening, the Hoagarten in the Gasthof Pfanzelt was designed by the groups Oiwei guad auf and Kätzlmeier.

An integral part of the series of events were the church services with folk music on Sunday in several churches, including St. Martin, St. John, Annunciation and St. Vincent. This highlighted the close connection between music and community in the region. In his welcoming speech, Erding's mayor Max Gotz emphasized the variety of performances, which cover various aspects of folk music.

A look ahead to future events

Another highlight of the folk music scene awaits visitors next year: the Volksmusiktag Mittendrin will take place from July 18th to 20th, 2025 in Eichstätt. Numerous music groups are invited to present a diverse folk music program in Eichstätter city center and on the seminar meadow. The expected participants include the Tanzlmusi “12 Hoibe Blosn” from the Erding district as well as many other ensembles that offer a wide repertoire.

Overall, the Folk Music Days in Erding and the upcoming events in Eichstätt illustrate the lively culture of folk music in Bavaria. Events such as the Munich Tanzboden in the Hofbräuhaus and the Kocherlball offer regular opportunities to share the joy of tradition and community, while more modern festivals such as the Brass Wiesn in Eching give folk music new impetus.

The events show once again how grown and diverse Bavarian folk music is, ranging from traditional to modern music, including cross-over elements. People are invited to get involved in various festivals and events and enjoy the culture outside, no matter the weather.
