Sweet reward for those who park correctly: Neumarkt Road Safety Day!
On June 16, 2025, a unique initiative to promote road safety was announced in Neumarkt. The Upper Palatinate Municipal Traffic Safety Association is planning a special campaign for drivers who park correctly on Road Safety Day, which takes place on June 21, 2025. At a time when illegal parking is a serious safety issue, this promotion offers a sweet surprise for compliant parkers.
Traditionally, those who park correctly in Neumarkt are rewarded with a thank you, a practice that has been carried out for nine years. In addition to the main campaign on Road Safety Day, such thank you campaigns take place before Christmas. This year, the exemplary drivers will receive a thank you card containing a fruity chewy candy in FSC-certified paper packaging. Managing director Simone Reinhardt emphasizes that this campaign is a sign of appreciation for legal parking.
Importance of traffic monitoring
Mayor Markus Ochsenkühn supports the campaign and emphasizes the importance of traffic monitoring. Illegal parking not only endangers your own safety, but also that of other road users, especially children, seniors and people with disabilities. In addition, illegal parking can have a negative impact on the deployment times of the fire brigade and emergency doctor.
This year, a total of over 5,000 sweet surprises will be distributed to those who park correctly in 80 municipalities, which clearly underlines the community's commitment to traffic safety.
Traffic safety in comparison: A Berlin perspective
The issue of traffic safety is also of great importance in Berlin. A road safety campaign with the motto “Arrive better together” aims to avoid conflicts in road traffic and increase safety through empathy and respect. Since many restrictions were relaxed following the coronavirus pandemic, the number of traffic accidents in Berlin has risen to 134,136 in 2023, with human error identified as the main cause of the accidents.
The Berlin campaign calls for self-reflection about one's own behavior in traffic and uses methods such as “Monster Yoga” to improve one's inner attitude. This includes mindfulness and stress management exercises to help increase visibility in traffic and act considerately. Despite 89% of participants believing that they are considerate, only 37% perceive other road users to be considerate. This discrepancy clearly shows that there is room for maneuver.
Both initiatives, both in Neumarkt and in Berlin, promote better coexistence in road traffic and emphasize the importance of traffic safety as a joint task. The campaigns encourage role models and ensure that accidents and dangerous situations in traffic can be reduced through greater consideration and respect.
