Punt race 2025: Tübingen celebrates winners and creative costumes!
The eagerly awaited punting race 2025 took place in Tübingen today. In bright sunshine and temperatures of a pleasant 28 degrees, 47 teams competed against each other and created an unforgettable spectacle on the banks of the Neckar. Thousands of spectators were on site, while many more followed the event via live stream. The event has a long tradition and its roots in a competition between Tübingen student associations, although participation is now also open to other student groups and women.
The teams, each consisting of eight members, had the challenge of maneuvering their boats through the well-known bottleneck between the Neckar Island and the bridge pillar. Finally, the ATV Arminia Tübingen 1 team (start number 9) won the race and secured the coveted title. The last team, the Alte Straßburger Burschenschaft Germania Tübingen (start number 19), has to organize the next race in 2026 and was also given the not-so-honorable punishment: each participant had to drink half a liter of cod liver oil.
Costume competition delights the crowds
Another highlight of the punting race was the costume competition, which caused great enthusiasm and applause. The Academic Ski Club Tübingen achieved first place with a creative topic about Madagascar and 48 points. SSC Tübingen took second place with the summer festival theme (45 points), followed by AG Stuttgardia in third place with the Hawaii theme, which achieved 43 points. The winning team received a voucher for a suckling pig, while the fastest team, the Arminia Academic Gymnastics Association, was rewarded with beer and honors.
The total number of participants and spectators speaks for the popularity of the race. The successful combination of a sporting challenge and a festive atmosphere made the event a real pleasure that captivated both the audience and the participants. With such a successful race, the anticipation for next year only increases.
