The highly anticipated “Baltic Guitar Days” festival starts in Szczecin today, June 12, 2025. This unique event attracts both guitar music lovers and emerging talents and provides a platform for master classes, competitions and varied concerts. Visitors are particularly looking forward to the performance of the Melis duo, which will perform at the Filharmonia Szczecińska at 7:00 p.m. Admission to this concert is chargeable. The Baltic Guitar Days festival will take place from June 12th to 14th, 2025 and is the only international event of its kind in the western region of Poland. The competition for young musicians runs daily between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. and attracts participants from various countries, including Poland, China, Vietnam and Croatia. One of the highlights are the master classes, which are led by well-known artists such as Alexis Mouzourakis and Pavel Steidl, and which are also free.
The Melis duo and their musical journey
The duo Melis consists of the Spanish guitarist Susana Prieto and the Greek guitarist Alexis Muzurakis, both of whom have been active since 1999 and have since performed in renowned concert halls around the world such as the Berlin Philharmonic and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Their performances are characterized by emotional intensity, perfect technique and harmonious sound play. The duo has won many international competitions and regularly collaborates with renowned orchestras.
The duo's repertoire ranges from baroque music to contemporary compositions, including works by Astor Piazzolla, Alberto Ginastera and Leo Brouwer. Their program also includes their own transcriptions as well as guitar concertos by Rodrigo, Castelnuovo-Tedesco and Vivaldi, as gov.pl describes.
A varied festival program
The second day of the festival, June 13, 2025, will be rounded off with joint performances by the Meninas Duo from Poland and the Chameleon Duo from Poland and Slovenia; both concerts offer free entry. On the last day of the festival, June 14, 2025, Pavel Steidl from the Czech Republic will perform, also free of charge. The “Baltic Guitar Days” festival is organized under the patronage of the Marshal of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship and the Mayor of Szczecin. The management of the festival is in the hands of Dr. Jakub Kościuszko and the organizers ZPSM im. F. Nowowiejskiego, Stowarzyszenie Muzyk, and the Filharmonia im. Mieczyslawa Karlowicza.
