PLN 27 million for urology: Bielsko-Biała modernizes hospital!

The Szpital Wojewódzki w Bielsku-Białej has received a significant grant of over PLN 27 million from the Krajowy Plan Odbudowy (KPO). This was confirmed in a recently signed contract with the Ministry of Health. The funding will be used to modernize and equip the Department of Urology and Urological Oncology, as bielsko.biala.pl reports.

A total of 257 hospitals applied for the KPO funds, of which 102 institutions successfully received funding. The expected investments include modern surgical procedures to improve the quality of treatment for cancer patients. One of the outstanding purchases is a surgical robot, the equipment for which costs almost PLN 11 million. This will be the first highly specialized device of its kind in the region.

Planned purchases and renovations

Another significant equipment is a holmium laser with morcelator and optical system, which will cost almost PLN 1 million. In addition, numerous devices for modern diagnostics, such as X-ray and endoscopic devices as well as cystoscopes, are being planned. The department rooms will also be remodeled, including redesigned sanitary nodes and the creation of a four-seat observation room, as well as an ultrasound room and a fusion biopsy workshop. The construction work is expected to be completed by May next year. During the modernization, the department will temporarily continue to work at another location in the hospital.

Last year, 1,470 patients were treated in the department, with almost half struggling with malignant tumors or unclear findings. A total of 2777 procedures were performed, including 232 operations under general anesthesia as part of the DILO program, which provides rapid oncological care. The new KPO funds are expected to increase the number of procedures performed.

This development is particularly important for the region as it will significantly improve access to quality treatment options for cancer patients. The investment in medical technology and the hospital's infrastructure also shows how crucial modern equipment is for the success of treatment strategies in the fight against cancer. According to radiobielsko.pl, the KPO funds are important not only for Bielsk-Biała, but also for other institutions in the region, with only two out of six hospitals receiving funding for oncology received projects.
