New mode inspires: A-Youth Bundesliga starts in September!
The 2025/26 season of the female A-Youth Bundesliga in handball is just around the corner and starts on September 13th and 14th. In the coming season, 24 teams will compete in a comprehensively revised mode, divided into four groups of six teams each. This means an exciting format that is intended to strengthen young sports in Germany, as handball-world.news reports.
In the preliminary round, the teams play home and away games. The best three teams in each group qualify for the championship round, which is played in two groups of six. Here the tension is underlined once again: The results from the preliminary round are also carried over into the championship round, so every encounter is of great importance.
Details about the new mode
The championship round includes six more match days. Places 1 to 4 in this round will have the chance to compete in the quarter-finals of the German Championship, while the winners of this quarter-final will advance to the Final4. In addition, the teams that end up in the cup round play for the title of DHB cup winner for the female A-youth. In the cup round, places 1 and 2 also fight for the trophy.
The importance of the Youth Bundesliga for promoting talent in German handball cannot be overestimated. The league belongs to the top division in the female youth sector and offers young athletes the opportunity to present themselves at the highest level, as dhb.de emphasizes.
