A8 closure: Ulm direction closed for two weekends!
The A8 motorway between Mühlhausen im Täle and Merklingen in the direction of Ulm/Munich will be closed twice in October 2025. These necessary closures are part of comprehensive construction work aimed at renewing the roadway, bridges and railings. The aim of the work is to make the route winter-proof in order to increase traffic safety and reduce future traffic jams, particularly on this well-known congestion-prone route.
The first closing times are scheduled for Friday, October 17th at 9 p.m. to Monday, October 20th at 5 a.m. The second lockdown begins on Friday October 31st, also at 9pm, and ends on Monday November 3rd at 5am. The opposite direction from Stuttgart to Karlsruhe remains unaffected by these restrictions and is still passable. However, drivers should prepare for the diversions in good time.
Detours and traffic routing
For long-distance traffic, diversions will be signposted from the Weinsberg motorway junction. The routes lead either via the A6 and A7 back to the A8 towards Munich or via the A7 towards Füssen. For regional traffic there is a diversion from the Wendlingen junction via the B313 and B10 to the Ulm-West junction.
Traffic from Mühlhausen will be redirected locally: via the B466 and B10 to the A8 Ulm-West or via the L1230 to Merklingen. Autobahn GmbH asks all road users not to use “secret routes” through towns and to turn off their navigation devices in order to avoid traffic jams and unnecessary burdens for residents.
Importance of the A8
The A8 is an important east-west connection in southern Germany and is of great importance for regional and national traffic. The renovation measures are particularly crucial in view of the traffic challenges in this region. It is expected that the improvements will optimize traffic flow and contribute to relieving congestion on this busy route in the long term.
