Dragun celebrates family sports festival: fun for young and old!
Today, June 2, 2025, the family sports festival of the Dragun cultural and sports club took place in Dragun. Chairman Martin Knoop prepared the event participants for the upcoming marathon competition with push-ups and jumping jacks. After 25 years, the festival returned to the farm of Agrar AG, which also held an open day on that day. Knoop explained that the event previously took place in the village community center, but was moved due to the simultaneous Agrar AG event. Jörg Haase, Managing Director of Agrar AG, described this decision as logical in order to efficiently combine the preparations for both events.
The family sports festival provided a diverse range of competitions for all generations, with both adults and children taking part in activities such as balancing a ball with a tennis racket. Nadja Wagner, a new resident of Dragun, enthusiastically reported on the rubber boot throwing, which was one of the highlights of the festival. Mayor Erich Weidemann praised the excellent cooperation between the clubs and companies in the community, which makes such festivities possible.
Various competitions and other festivals
The events included competitions specifically designed for the whole family. Participants were able to demonstrate their skills and fitness in various disciplines. In addition to the family sports festival, other festivals are planned in Dragun this year, including an Oktoberfest, a Halloween festival, a Christmas party and a New Year's Eve party. Residents of the region also have the opportunity to enjoy the summer at the swimming spots around Lake Vietlübber or to cycle through the wide fields and forests.
A look beyond the events shows that similar family sports festivals also take place elsewhere. For example, beactive-frankfurt.de recently organized a family sports festival in Frankfurt. On September 24, 2023, the factory sports hall in Fechenheim was the venue for an event aimed at families, friends and people with disabilities. Here, family duos were able to take part in free hands-on activities and experience teamwork and the joy of exercise.
With the motto "For young and old! Together for all generations!" and the hashtag #BeActive, the Frankfurt Festival was another example of the importance of community events that strengthen cohesion within society.
