The garden magic in Aßling: Tips for colorful insect protection!
The Gaßner family from Aßling has decided to take part in the upcoming “open garden day” and present their natural garden. On their 2,000 square meter property, 22 chickens and koi live in the pond, while around 40 different types of roses and an estimated 20,000 flowers decorate the garden. Marianne Gaßner (68) and her son Josef (44), who works as a gardener, have invested a lot of effort in designing and maintaining their garden.
Josef Gaßner explains the differences between plums and damsons while giving tips for garden lovers. “We recommend sowing meadow flowers and not cleaning up in the fall,” says Josef, as this helps protect insects. The garden not only represents a retreat for the family, but is also used to grow vegetables such as lettuce, kohlrabi, cauliflower, chard, tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers.
The open garden day
This year's “Garden Open Day” will take place on June 29th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and offers visitors the opportunity to gain insights into private gardens. On this day, visitors will have the opportunity to explore different types of gardens - from ornamental gardens to natural gardens to self-sufficient gardens - and gather inspiration for their own garden projects. This happens not only in the Ebersberg district, but also in other regions, such as Saarland and Rhineland-Palatinate, where similar events take place to promote appreciation for garden culture.
Together with numerous other garden owners, the Gaßner family invites you to discover the diversity of garden art. Despite minor problems this year, such as mole crickets damaging the roots of plants, enthusiasm for garden care remains unbroken. Marianne Gaßner works 10 to 15 hours a week in her garden between April and October and actively exchanges ideas with other members of her horticultural club about caring for and growing plants. The exchange between garden lovers is not only enriching, but also valuable support during the gardening year.
In summary, both Mr and Mrs Gaßner see the “open garden day” not only as an opportunity to show off their plants, but also as an opportunity to share the joy and value of gardening with others. In these current times, staying in the garden and keeping busy with it could only be an advantage. Support local garden culture and visit the Gaßner family garden on June 29th!
