Last Sunday, October 16, 2025, a remarkable day of travel took place on the Amstetten (Württ.) and Gerstetten local railway. This special day was only possible because the steam locomotive 75 1118 is currently undergoing a general inspection (HU). Instead, the ex V80 BB, a diesel locomotive from MaK from 1954, took over the service and ensured that the event ran smoothly. The locomotive was originally delivered to OHE – Osthannoversche Eisenbahnen AG and has since passed through various operators. Thanks to this flexible solution, the driving day could take place without having to be cancelled.
The powerful diesel locomotive pulled the UEF's popular blunderbuss train and provided authentic railway sounds in the autumnal ambience. The trees and bushes along the route were already showing their autumnal colors while the clouds covered the sky and missed the sun. What was particularly impressive was the characteristic sound of the 800 hp diesel engine when starting and driving uphill, which was a highlight for many railway enthusiasts. The organizers thanked those involved who made this impressive journey in front of a museum train possible, recalling the charming atmosphere of bygone times that these events often offer.
Rides on the Sauschwänzlebahn
Steam train rides will take place next weekend, October 18th and 19th, 2025, which should attract visitors in addition to those on the local train. New this year are trips to and from Fützen, with a departure time at 9:10 a.m. (except Fridays) and at 1:10 p.m. (only Fridays) for the route from Fützen to Blumberg- Zollhaus. The return journey from Blumberg- Zollhaus to Fützen is scheduled for 5:10 p.m.
Important information for passengers
Please note that there is no guaranteed seat and there may still be seats available on the train. Changes to the timetable are possible at short notice. It should also be noted that the Germany ticket or the 49 euro ticket is not valid on the Sauschwänzlebahn. Only tickets issued directly by the Sauschwänzlebahn are valid. For further information, staff are available by telephone from Monday to Thursday and on Friday during the specified times.
Timetables and tickets are available online for anyone interested, making travel hassle-free. The Sauschwänzlebahn offers not only locals but also tourists an excellent opportunity to experience the breathtaking nature of the Black Forest.
