Such incidents are not uncommon in the Ulm region. There have been increasing reports of break-ins in recent months. Burglars in Westerstetten tried to break open a front door, but failed and instead broke a window to get inside. It remained unclear whether any loot was taken. A similar case occurred in Nellingen, where unknown persons broke into a residential building, but overlooked jewelry in a cash box and fled without loot presseportal.de.
Increasing burglaries and police work
The police in the region are aware of the increasing crime and have therefore increased their patrols during the dark season in order to prevent break-ins. As part of the investigation, officers secure evidence and conduct interviews to track down the perpetrators. However, it turns out that in many cases the damage to property exceeds the amount of the stolen goods, which puts an additional burden on crime statistics.
Police provide security tips to prevent potential break-ins. This includes locking windows and doors, avoiding hidden keys and only closing shutters at night. Promoting neighborhood assistance is also recommended in order to create a relaxed feeling of security in residential areas. Anyone who notices suspicious people should immediately contact the police on the emergency number 110.
It is important for affected residents and possible witnesses to be sensitive and heed advice on how to improve safety within their own four walls. The Ulm-Mitte police are available on 0731/188-3312 for tips and information.
