Culinary treasures: Laura Alena Schmid invites you to the rural women’s trip!

The joint production “Land & delicious” by BR, SWR and WDR continues its culinary journey through Germany. Six rural women from different regions visit each other, provide insights into their everyday farm life and present regional specialties. At the end of the journey, points are awarded and a winner is chosen. The fourth trip leads to 34-year-old Laura Alena Schmid, who runs a small farm in the Swabian Alb and keeps Galloway cattle, chickens, goats and boarding horses. Laura has owned her farm in the Filstal for eleven years and invests a lot of time and money in building up her farm, supported by her mother, an employee and her partner Simon. The solidarity in her village of Unterböhringen plays a central role in her life and is evident when the other rural women visit.

Laura surprises her guests with a relaxing wellness day in the thermal baths in Bad Überkingen before inviting them to her farm. There she prepares various delicacies in the historic village bakery, including Unterböhringer Blätzle, beef cider from her Galloway beef, filled waffles and her own eggnog. Her fellow campaigners are Leonie Froböse from Ostwestfalen-Lippe, who breeds Angus cattle and Swabian-Hallian land pigs; Andrea Meßmer from Upper Bavaria, who breeds yaks and is a wild herb educator; Verena Krimbacher from Bavarian Swabia, who keeps dairy cattle, pastured oxen and ancient grains and is an Allgäu wild herb guide; Rahel Kremershof, who is making a new start with organic cattle, sheep and chickens; and Steffi Huber, who lives in the Black Forest, produces beer and schnapps and practices forestry.

Strong cohesion in agriculture

The rural women not only show their culinary skills, but also how important cohesion is in rural communities. As part of the program, the women learn from each other and support each other. In a social context in which women in agriculture are often confronted with insecurities, being positively strengthened in the exchange is of great importance. Claire Shipman and Katty Kay, American journalists, address the challenges women face in their book “Confidence Code: What Makes Women Confident.” They emphasize that many competent women doubt their self-confidence, which is particularly evident in agriculture.

The new season of “Land & delicious” starts on June 16, 2025 on WDR television. The episode with Laura Alena Schmid is available a week in advance in the ARD media library. This platform offers a valuable opportunity to get to know the diversity and traditional culinary treasures of the region and to experience the stories of the rural women up close.

As [ Fernsehenserien.de](https://www. Fernsehenserien.de/land-und-lecker/follow/2×20-kulinäre-schaetze-von-der-schwaebischen-alb-1809079) reports, Laura sees herself in her role as a farmer as a role model for other women in agriculture who also want to work for their dreams. ARD Mediathek is also an important part of the story about Laura and her Cooking arts. In addition, agrarheute.com highlights the need for women to learn from failures and support each other, which the rural women's community exemplifies.
