Farewell to Edgar Wolff: General meeting promotes nature conservation!

On June 4, 2025, the Göppingen District Landscape Conservation Association met in the Hohenstaufensaal of the Göppingen District Office. This general meeting was an important event as it was the last chaired by District Administrator Edgar Wolff. The long-time chairman, who has been at the helm of the association since it was founded in 2013, will leave this position on July 1, 2024. In his speech, Wolff emphasized the importance of biodiversity and thanked everyone present for their commitment to preserving the cultural landscape.

The Landscape Conservation Association (LEV) holds such meetings every year to receive the business and financial reports and to discharge and re-elect the board. This year, all previous board members were unanimously confirmed in office. The board is made up of tripartite representatives from municipalities, agriculture and nature conservation.

Commitment to nature conservation

A central goal of the LEV is to preserve the cultural landscape and biodiversity in the Göppingen district. This is promoted through various measures and intensive cooperation with farmers, municipalities and nature conservation associations. The LEV is a non-profit organization that is supported by an annual funding volume in the six-figure range. These funds are used for landscape conservation and the implementation of the landscape conservation guidelines of the state of Baden-Württemberg.

In addition, the LEV acts as an office that provides information about current projects and successes in landscape conservation. Alexander Koch, the managing director of LEV, emphasized the good cooperation with Edgar Wolff and emphasized the progress that has been made in recent years. At the end of the 2024 financial year, 35 municipalities and 7 associations are already members of the association.

Important projects and measures

At one of the last general meetings, a guest lecture was given by René Greiner, head of wildlife management and nature conservation at the state hunting association. He provided information about the protection of partridges, which are threatened with extinction in Baden-Württemberg. Initiatives such as the federal project “Saving partridges – promoting diversity” show positive approaches to saving this species.

The importance of exchange between farmers, hunters, conservationists and authorities is undeniable, and the LEV acts as a connecting player. Such cooperation is crucial for the success of such protective measures.

The committed work of the landscape conservation associations in Baden-Württemberg reflects the broad commitment to protecting and maintaining the cultural landscape. This not only promotes biodiversity, but also strengthens the close connection between agriculture and nature conservation.
