Rescue operation in Wittenburg: Police free pensioners from hot car!

A worrying incident occurred in Wittenburg, a town in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district, when an 82-year-old man found himself in a critical situation in his car. The incident occurred on a hot Saturday afternoon when the senior was stuck in an overheated vehicle, presumably due to technical defects and the summer heat. An alert witness noticed the man's plight in a supermarket parking lot and promptly alerted the police.

The officers deployed took a drastic measure to free the man from his predicament: They broke the rear window of the vehicle with a crowbar. Thanks to this quick reaction, the man was freed from the overheated car. After he was brought to safety, he was allowed to sit briefly in the shade and drink water. No medical treatment was necessary after his liberation, and his relatives ensured that he was brought home safely. Loud star It remains unclear whether the technical defect was discovered beforehand or whether it only became apparent due to the heat.

Technical problems in traffic

The incident in Wittenburg is not alone. On September 14, 2024, another threatening event occurred on the A24 motorway near Wittenburg. A rear-end collision occurred after a vehicle developed a technical defect. The emergency assistant of one vehicle triggered emergency braking, which meant that the vehicle behind was unable to brake in time and rear-ended.

Three people were injured in this accident and had to be taken to hospital in Hagenow. The driver of the second vehicle, a 27-year-old man, was unable to prevent the collision from occurring. The estimated material damage amounts to around 25,000 euros. The motorway had to be completely closed in the direction of Berlin for at least 30 minutes NDR reported.

The two incidents highlight the dangers posed by technical defects in vehicles, particularly under extreme weather conditions. It remains to be hoped that such emergencies can be avoided in the future through thorough inspection and maintenance of the vehicles.
